By downloading, installing, or using OTG Nexus ("the App"), developed by Obelisk Agency ("we", "us", "our"), you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms") and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
1. Acceptance of Terms
We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of any changes.
2. App Description
OTG Nexus is a USB OTG file manager for Android that enables users to:
- Browse and manage files on USB storage devices connected via OTG cable
- Read files from 19 file system formats (FAT, exFAT, NTFS, EXT2/3/4, HFS+, APFS, XFS, Btrfs, F2FS, ISO9660, UDF, and more)
- Write files to FAT, exFAT, NTFS, and EXT2/EXT3/EXT4 formatted drives, subject to the safety checks described in section 6
- Erase and format a partition as FAT32, exFAT, or EXT2
- Play audio and video files, DVD-Video discs, and audio CDs in a built-in player
- Save files shared from other apps directly to a connected drive
- Copy files between USB devices and Android device storage, and, with your permission, browse and manage the phone's own storage and SD card beside your drives
- View images, documents (text and PDF), share files, open and extract ZIP, 7z and TAR archives, and create ZIP (optionally password-protected), 7z and tar.gz archives
- Store files in an optional on-device encrypted vault (AES-256-GCM)
- Share files with devices on the same local network via a built-in web server
- Upload files to your own Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive account, and browse your Dropbox or OneDrive beside your drives
- Browse and manage files on network drives you add: Windows shares, NAS boxes and servers reached by SMB, SFTP, FTP or WebDAV
- Lock the App behind your fingerprint or your phone's screen lock (optional)
- Recover deleted files, and carve files from formatted or corrupt drives ("Deep scan")
- Create byte-exact disk images (.img) of a partition or a whole drive, and open and browse existing .img / .iso images
- Unlock and browse LUKS-encrypted Linux volumes and BitLocker-encrypted Windows volumes using your passphrase or recovery key
- Inspect a drive at the raw sector level (hex viewer)
- Detect potentially malicious USB devices via a built-in security scanner
3. License
We grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use the App on Android devices you own or control, for personal or commercial file management purposes.
You may not:
- Copy, modify, distribute, or create derivative works of the App
- Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App
- Remove copyright or proprietary notices
- Use the App name, logo, or branding without written permission
- Use automated tools to extract data from the App
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose
Open-source components. Parts of the App are open-source software, licensed to you under their own licences, which are listed in the App (Settings → Third-party licenses). Nothing in these Terms limits the rights those licences give you, and the restrictions above do not apply to those parts where their licence says otherwise. In particular, the App contains the FFmpeg audio decoders, licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License, version 2.1 or later: you may modify that library for your own use, and reverse engineer the App to the extent needed to debug such modifications.
4. User Responsibilities
You are responsible for:
- Ensuring your Android device supports USB OTG functionality
- Safely ejecting USB devices before physically disconnecting them
- Maintaining independent backups of all important data on your USB devices
- Verifying the integrity of files after transfer operations
- Using the App in compliance with all applicable laws
- Any consequences resulting from your use of the App
5. Data and File Safety
Important: Please read this section carefully.
File system operations carry inherent risks. By using this App, you acknowledge and accept that:
- The App interacts directly with USB hardware at the block device level using SCSI commands
- Write operations modify data directly on the USB storage device
- If you give the App access to your phone's storage, renaming and moving there change your phone's files directly. Deleting a file there in the App moves it to a recycle bin on that storage, where it is kept for 30 days and then removed for good; emptying the recycle bin or choosing "Delete forever" cannot be undone. Deletes on USB drives and the source of a move between storages are not kept
- Erasing and formatting a partition permanently destroys all data on it. The App asks you to confirm first, but it cannot undo a format or restore what was on the partition
- Improper disconnection during read or write operations may cause data corruption
- Not all USB devices, OTG adapters, or Android devices may be compatible
- Encrypted, damaged, or corrupted file systems may not be fully readable
We are not responsible for:
- Data loss, corruption, or damage to USB devices or their contents
- Data loss on your Android device
- Damage from improper USB disconnection
- Device or file system incompatibilities
- Loss of business, revenue, or profits related to data managed through the App
We strongly recommend maintaining independent backups of important data before using write features.
Data recovery, deep scan, and disk imaging. The App's recovery tools (undelete, deep-scan file carving, and disk imaging) are provided on a best-effort basis. By using them, you acknowledge and accept that:
- Recovery of deleted or lost files is never guaranteed. Deleted data may have already been overwritten, partially overwritten, or fragmented, and may be permanently unrecoverable.
- Recovered files may be incomplete, corrupt, or incorrectly named; files recovered by deep-scan carving are given generic names because the original name is not present in the raw data.
- The recovery tools read the source drive only and never write to it. Always recover files to a different drive or to your phone, never back onto the drive you are recovering from, as doing so can destroy the very data you are trying to recover.
- A disk image is a raw, sector-level copy. Verify it (for example, using the optional checksum) before relying on it, and ensure sufficient free space for the copy.
- These tools are not a substitute for professional data-recovery services or for maintaining regular backups.
6. File System Compatibility
The App writes to FAT12, FAT16, FAT32, exFAT, NTFS, EXT2, EXT3, and EXT4 volumes. Other file systems (including HFS+, APFS, XFS, Btrfs, F2FS, ISO9660, UDF, ZFS, ReiserFS, JFS, and NILFS2) and audio CDs are accessed in read-only mode.
Even on a writable format, the App declines to write, and tells you why, when writing could damage the volume: for example, an NTFS volume that Windows did not close cleanly (including Windows "Fast Startup"), an EXT3 or EXT4 volume whose journal has not been replayed or that was not unmounted cleanly, a volume that uses features the App cannot write safely, or an NTFS file or folder stored across several file-table records. These are intentional safety measures to prevent data corruption.
Encryption support is limited. The App can unlock and browse LUKS-encrypted Linux volumes (LUKS versions 1 and 2, aes-xts-plain64) and BitLocker-encrypted Windows volumes (with the password or the 48-digit recovery key; AES-XTS and AES-CBC, but not the "Elephant diffuser" method used by Windows Vista and 7) when you provide the correct credentials. Unlocking is performed entirely on your device; the passphrase or recovery key is never stored or transmitted, and the unlocked volume is accessed in read-only mode. Other encryption is not supported: the App does not decrypt hardware-encrypted USB drives (including password-protected drives such as Kingston IronKey or Samsung T7 Shield), and does not support FileVault / encrypted APFS volumes (macOS), VeraCrypt / TrueCrypt containers, LUKS volumes using other ciphers or integrity protection, or volumes part-way through being encrypted or re-encrypted. Such drives or partitions will appear as unknown, encrypted, or unsupported and cannot be browsed from within the App; you will need to unlock or decrypt them on a supported operating system first.
The App's own Encrypted Vault feature (described below) is unrelated to these drive-level encryption formats, it stores encrypted files inside a regular, unencrypted file system.
7. Encrypted Vault Feature
Important: Please read this section carefully.
The App includes an optional encrypted vault feature that stores selected files on your USB device using AES-256-GCM encryption with a password-derived key (PBKDF2-HMAC-SHA256). By using the vault feature, you acknowledge and accept that:
- Forgotten or lost passwords cannot be recovered. There is no password reset, no backdoor, and no recovery mechanism. Losing your vault password means permanent, unrecoverable loss of all files stored in the vault.
- Vault files are stored on the USB device and are subject to the same risks as any other data on that device, including corruption, hardware failure, and accidental deletion.
- The vault does not replace a backup strategy. Encryption protects confidentiality, not availability.
- We cannot access, recover, or decrypt your vault contents under any circumstances.
We strongly recommend maintaining independent, encrypted backups of any important files before adding them to the vault.
8. USB Security Scanner
The App includes a USB security scanner that checks connected devices for potential threats (such as USB Rubber Ducky attacks). This feature:
- Provides advisory warnings only and is not a security guarantee
- Should not be relied upon as your sole protection against malicious USB devices
- May produce false positives for legitimate multifunction devices
- May not detect all types of malicious USB devices
- Does not protect against hardware-level attacks
We disclaim all liability for damage caused by malicious USB devices, whether or not the scanner detected a threat.
9. Advertising
The App displays banner advertisements provided by Google AdMob. Advertisement content is determined by Google and is not controlled by us. By using the App, you agree to Google's advertising terms. We are not responsible for the content or accuracy of displayed advertisements.
10. Third-Party Components
The App uses third-party libraries and components (including Google AdMob, Android Jetpack, AndroidX Media3, FFmpeg, Hilt, and others) subject to their respective licenses. The full list, with each licence's text and where to obtain the source code of the LGPL-licensed FFmpeg library, is in the App under Settings → Third-party licenses.
Cloud services. Upload to cloud sends files to Google Drive, Dropbox or Microsoft OneDrive under your own account with that service, and is subject to that service's terms. Those services are not operated by us, and we are not responsible for their availability or for what happens to files once they have been uploaded. Google Drive is a trademark of Google LLC, Dropbox is a trademark of Dropbox, Inc., and OneDrive is a trademark of Microsoft Corporation; the App is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
Network drives. A network drive is a server you choose and connect to with your own credentials; the App reads and writes there only when you act on it. The server, its availability, and what it does with your files are its operator's responsibility, not ours. Files copied over plain FTP or WebDAV over http, and over SMB unless the server requires encryption, cross the network unencrypted.
Dolby, Dolby Digital and Dolby TrueHD are trademarks of Dolby Laboratories. DTS is a trademark of DTS, Inc. The App is not affiliated with, endorsed by or certified by either company; it names audio formats only to describe which files it can play.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
The App is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to:
- Warranties of merchantability
- Fitness for a particular purpose
- Non-infringement
- Accuracy or reliability of data read from USB devices
- Compatibility with specific devices or file systems
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation
We do not warrant that the App will meet your requirements, operate without errors, or that all file systems will be fully supported on all devices.
12. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law:
- We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
- We shall not be liable for any loss of data, use, goodwill, or profits
- Our total aggregate liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App
- These limitations apply regardless of the legal theory and even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain damages. In such cases, our liability shall be limited to the fullest extent permitted by law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Obelisk Agency, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorney's fees) arising from:
- Your use of the App
- Your violation of these Terms
- Any data loss or damage resulting from your use of the App
- Any third-party claim related to your use of the App
14. Updates
We may update the App at any time without prior notice. Updates may add, modify, or remove features. We are not obligated to provide updates, support, or maintenance.
15. Termination
We may terminate or suspend your access to the App at any time, without notice, for conduct that violates these Terms or is harmful to others. Upon termination, your license is immediately revoked.
16. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found unenforceable, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary. Remaining provisions remain in full force.
17. Entire Agreement
These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and Obelisk Agency regarding the App.
18. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Romania, without regard to conflict of law principles. Any disputes shall be resolved through good-faith negotiation. If negotiation fails, disputes shall be submitted to the competent courts of Romania.
