This Privacy Policy explains how QR Code: Scanner & Validator ("QRSV", "we", "our", or "the app"), developed by Obelisk Agency, handles your information. We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about our data practices.
1. Data Collection
The app collects and stores the following data locally on your device:
- QR codes and barcodes you scan, including their content and analysis results
- Your scan history, favorites, and custom names for scans
- App preferences such as theme, language, font size, and accessibility settings
2. Data Storage
All data is stored exclusively on your device using local storage. We do not have access to your data, and it never leaves your device unless you explicitly choose to:
- Share content through your device's sharing features
- Back up your data to Google Drive (requires your explicit authorization)
- Export your data to a local file on your device
3. Data Sharing
We do not collect, transmit, or share any of your personal data with third parties. The app operates entirely offline for scanning and security analysis. Any sharing of scanned content is initiated by you and goes directly from your device through your chosen method.
4. Network Requests
The app may make network requests in the following optional scenarios:
- Product information lookups: When you scan a product barcode, the app may query Open Food Facts, Open Pet Food Facts, Open Beauty Facts, Open Products Facts, and Google Books APIs to retrieve product details. Only the barcode number is sent; no personal data is transmitted.
- Malware/phishing blocklist updates: The app periodically downloads an updated blocklist to keep URL security analysis current.
- Google Drive backup: If you choose to back up your data, scan history is uploaded to your personal Google Drive account. This requires your explicit sign-in and authorization.
- Google ML Kit: A small barcode detection model (~2MB) may be downloaded once for gallery QR code scanning. Processing happens entirely on your device.
5. Third-Party Services
The app integrates the following third-party services:
- Google AdMob: The free version displays advertisements. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data according to Google's Privacy Policy. The premium version removes all advertisements.
- Google Play Billing: In-app purchases are processed through Google Play. We do not have access to your payment information.
- Google Sign-In: Used only for Google Drive backup functionality. We only access your email address for display purposes and your Drive storage for backup files.
- Firebase Crashlytics & Analytics: We use Firebase Crashlytics and Analytics to collect anonymous crash reports and usage data to improve app stability and performance. No personally identifiable information is collected.
6. Camera & Contacts Permissions
- Camera: Required to scan QR codes and barcodes. Camera data is processed in real-time on your device and is not stored or transmitted. Images are immediately discarded after processing.
- Contacts: Used only when you choose to save a scanned contact (vCard) to your device's address book. We do not read, collect, or transmit your existing contacts.
7. Security
All QR code scanning and security analysis is performed locally on your device. We employ industry-standard security measures including HTTPS-only network communication for all external requests.
8. Children's Privacy
The app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
9. Your Rights
Access: All your data is stored locally and accessible to you at any time through the app.
Delete: You can delete individual scans or clear all history at any time.
Export: You can export your scan history using the backup feature in Settings.
Opt out of ads: Purchase the premium version to remove all third-party advertising.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
